On these pages I will post news, causes, stuff about Boston and other things that make me tick.

When I first got online using my WebTV Classic, I had to pick a screen-name to get online. I wanted something different, (not Dave 654.) Since I lived in Allston, MA, I picked allstondave and have used that all over the internet ever since and have found it to be truly unique on the internet.

I now live in Melrose, MA. And, I don't think Melrosedave has quite the right ring to it. While Allston has changed alot since it's heyday as the Rock capital of Boston, it was my home for over 20 years and I'll always have fond memories (the ones I can remember) of my time there. Hence, I am keeping the name allstondave.

AND,

I've now registered allstondave.com as the new URL of my site, so I guess I'm stuck with it.

These pages are Graphic Intensive and may load slowly on old dial-up connections. To really experience the internet you need a DSL or Cable connection. (If you have cable TV, Try cable internet?).It's expensive, but to me, worth it.

Hit your F11 key to see the whole page as it is meant to be seen.
This trick works on all pages on Internet Explorer, (at least the later versions). Then if you right-click the top tool-bar and bottom task-bar, and select "Auto-hide", you can view pages truly full-screen.

Please visit and sign my guestbook and leave some comments, good or not so good.

I am still building this page.
Some parts are coming together pretty well. Other parts still need lots of work. This page is a life-project. Some of the pages were included for future use. My sports pages will someday (after I've retired, LOL) be filled with daily updates. Right now I don't have time to keep up all these pages, they're just here in the framework for the future.

Please make sure your speakers are turned on because there is audio all through this site.

Thanks for visiting and I hope you will check back soon.

Use the floating menu to find pages which I hope you will want to:

Words

I still don't get "Twitter"!

In an effort to become more environmentally responsible, I have installed Energy Star Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs, (CFLs), in most of the fixtures in my apartment. The fixtures in my kitchen ceiling are on dimmers, so I have not changed those.

CFLs use much less electricity, burn much cooler and last about 10 times longer than regular light bulbs. I have never been a big fan of Fluorescent light bulbs, but I have found that these new CFLs work just fine for me.

It is said that if every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road.

Click here to see CFLs in action in my apartment.

Please join me in this effort and see if you can change at least one light bulb to a CFL.

Top of the Hub

I have worked at the Top of the Hub for 13 years. I have seen beautiful rainbows, Beautiful New Bar been mere feet away from direct lightning strikes, experienced awe-inspiring sunsets and I never tire of the view. The restaurant has recently under-gone extensive renovations including a totally redesigned bar, new lighting, furniture and carpeting.

The food at the Top of the Hub is awesome, from the huge Angus Beef burgers, and the freshest seafood to steaks that are so tender, you don't need a steak knife.

My job at the Top of the Hub is the head of the Function Set-up Crew. Wine Tasting dinner for 32 in the Fenway Room In the restaurant we can accommodate parties of up to 60 guests, but it is on the Skywalk where we really shine. There, we can seat up to 600 guests for a dinner or up to 1000 for a reception.

The best part about my job is that after working hard all day to set up the tables and chairs, buffet tables and food stations, making sure all the linens are crisp and perfect and that everything is just right, I get to see the look on the client's face when they first walk in and see how nice everything looks. That first look is what makes it all worthwhile!

Function Bar We work closely with local florists, Audio-Visual companies, set and prop rental companies and Linen supply companies to get whatever you need to make your event special. Whether it is a wedding, bar mitzvah, a corporate event, a wine tasting or just a family gathering, my philosophy has always been, that while we may do this stuff every day, we never lose sight of the fact, that for the client, they may have been planning this special event for a year or more, and we want to make everything perfect.

My saying has always been, "That's good enough" NEVER IS!

Boston Gondolas

Gondolas di Venezia offers authentic Venitian gondola tours along the Esplanade on the Charles River, in Boston. The website, in addition to schedules and pricing, has detailed information on how the gondolas are constructed by hand. They are built with keels curved to the right so they can be rowed with just one oar. This is done because the canals in Venice are very narrow.

As I look out from the Top of the Hub, (were I work) I often see the two gondolas cruising along the banks of the Charles. If you are looking for something romantic to try with your date, why not try an intimate sunset gondola tour, complete with an accordion player, champaign or wine and a basket of cheese and crackers, glasses and ice. I'm sure it would be a memorable date.

I wish I had thought of this!

I first ran across this website over ten years ago, when I first got online with my WebTV.
It's still there and he's raised over $5000.00
Gee! I still think..."I wish I thought of that"!

Don't forget to tip your waiter and bartender

As you may know, I work in the restaurant business, at the Top of the Hub, in Boston. I am manager of the function set-up crew and, as such, am not a tipped employee. But, most of the people I work with, depend on tips for their income. They make only about $2.60 an hour on the clock, and get screwed when somebody stiffs them. In America, anyway, it is normal to tip at least 15% of the check and more often 20%, if the service was good.

You may sit at the bar and look over and see a glass seemingly overflowing with money, (and think "This guy's raking it in.") but remember that that is split between all the bartenders, and they have to tip out the bar-backs. Waiters and waitresses have to tip out server assistants, busboys and bartenders.

These folks work really hard, often under difficult conditions, to help you have a nice time, so please don't forget to tip your waiters and bartenders.

To learn more about tipping, please check out the Tipping Page by clicking on the banner above.

This Page from "How Stuff Works" also has great info on tipping!
